Building projects – and in particular basement conversions – can be rather unpredictable because you never know exactly what you will find until the dig begins. Which is why it is always great to work on a project where everything goes very smoothly and to the programme.

A prime example is the total house refurbishment and basement conversion we are working on in Nicosia Road where everything is progressing very well and we are very much on schedule. This is due to a combination of no unexpected obstacles, good planning and a very proactive client.

If you’re keen for your building project to run smoothly, one of the main ways you can influence it is by frequent communication with your project manager, by having a clear idea of what you want to achieve and by adhering to the decision-making dates in your schedule.

This client has been so on top of things that we have already completed first fix electricity, the first coat of paint and are ready for tiling. In the coming weeks we will start the second fix electrics, which is when we drill the holes for lights. This signals a new stage in the project as the focus moves to the fit out and decor.

We are making similarly smooth progress on the rest of the refurbishment. The roof is on the ground floor and there is scaffold up for the main roof, which we are repairing. Again the client has already made decisions about everything he wants, which has enabled us to stay one step ahead.
