We have made dramatic progress on the basement conversion in Nicosia Road, Wandsworth Common; where we are currently slightly ahead of schedule.

The rapid progress is due to a combination of our skilled and experienced team of basement conversion specialists and the fact we did not encounter very much concrete in the existing foundations.

We have now laid the concrete slab, built the bay window in the basement columns at the front and we are starting preparation for the tanking system, which will keep the basement waterproof.

One of the important considerations with basement conversions is maintaining the character of the house. This means mirroring the front window above, which in this case is a bay.

Although we are making good progress on the basement conversion, there is still some way to go before we can move onto the fit-out: Once we complete the tanking system, we add insulation, under-floor heating and the screed, which is the penultimate floor finish.

On the ground floor, the rear extension team’s next job is to move the drainage man-hole that takes the roof water and kitchen waste out. As the level is being extended, the hole will need to be moved back about 10 metres and we will also need to re-lay the main wastage pipe.

They have already demolished the exterior wall and in the coming weeks, they will need to remove some load-bearing walls at which stage we will need to support the house on steels.
