One of the most common reasons clients approach Qualitas to build a basement conversion or completely refurbish and reconfigure their houses is to satisfy the needs of a growing (or growing up!) family.
We have recently started work on two exciting full-house refurbishment and basement conversion projects in Wimbledon and Barnes that are being redesigned for this very reason.
Both properties are already spacious but will dramatically benefit from being reconfigured to include open plan kitchen areas, child-friendly rooms in the basement and an increased bathroom to bedroom ratio.
Full-house refurbishment and basement conversion in Wimbledon
This double-fronted six bedroom home has recently been purchased by a couple with three children who want to create a family home that is tailor-made to suit the way they live their life.
There is already a small storeroom basement at the front of the house, which takes up about one-third of the footprint. We will be extending under the full footprint and adding two large living rooms, as well as a wine room, a store room and a plant room.
The ground floor will benefit from a ‘T-shaped’ extension to transform the back of the house into a large kitchen-dining room with doors through to a study. The front rooms will them become more formal living rooms for the adults or guests.
Upstairs will be transformed from four bedrooms to a spacious master bedroom suite complete with a spacious en-suite and an enviable walk-in wardrobe, while that second and third bedrooms will both benefit from the addition of an en-suite bathrooms.
Meanwhile the loft currently houses two bedrooms and a kitchenette, which will be transformed to a shower room making it much more practical.
Full-house refurbishment and basement conversion in Barnes
This 1930s house currently has a lean-to which wraps around the house, which is being replaced with a far more modern extension. This will house a large kitchen with sliding doors into the living room to create the open feel that we are all so fond of these days.
The basement conversion, which will utilise the vast majority of the house’s footprint, will house a utiltiy room, shower room and children’s play area that will also have a fold-down bed to increase its versatility.
Upstairs we will be adding a walk-in wardrobe and en-suite to the master bedroom to create a haven for the grown-ups. We’ll also need to add new stairs to the loft as the ones currently used are too steep to comply to building regulations.
