In the last month there has been a complete transformation to the basement conversion we are working on in Nicosia Road, Wandsworth Common.
Not only have we completed digging out the basement and waterproofing it, we’ve also completed the studwork for the walls in the basement
as well as the ceiling grid.
We currently have the electricians working on the first fix cables. When that is complete, we’ll board up, plaster and then cut out holes the light fittings before the electricians return for the second fix.
This is a stage of the build where you see dramatic progress quite quickly. For us, it is a case of making up frames and erecting them. For the client it is a time when their basement conversion really starts to take shape and it’s very exciting.
We are now waiting for the staircase to be ordered. This will go from the hallway to the basement landing in a like-for-like replacement for the current staircase down to the cellar conversion. However, this delay will slow our rapid progress.
On the ground floor we are doing the labour-intensive work of inserting the steels that will hold up the back part of the house. This framework is made up of two columns and 12 steels. The largest of these is some 1.3 tonnes of steel and took a specialised team of up to 12 people the best part of the day to put into place.
At this time it is all hands on deck to complete the framework. Once the columns are in we will do the restoration work to fill the holes that we have made before we start to build the new back of the house.
